Spend the Day Celebrating Dr. Seuss’ Birthday - Saturday, March 2




 

 Come celebrate Dr. Seuss’ 109th Birthday at the Rowayton Library, Saturday, March 2 with activities all morning long… stories, crafts, treats… for kids of any age… from 10am-Noon. 
And, in the afternoon it is LegoTime.  From Noon-3pm, explore the world of building with Legos® for Kids ages 6 and up @ the Rowayton Library on the first Saturday of each month.  This program is a Lego® building/creations workshop where children can work alone or in teams and build a creation based on their imagination and the "Theme of the Month." This is an open session (from noon to 3pm) where your child can build for a few minutes to a few hours.  When your child is done building, we will take a picture of their creation for "the Archives."  Then, please dismantle the creation and put the bricks back in the storage bins. The Lego® bricks are the property of the Rowayton Library and will not be distributed at the end of the program.
And, all day long (from 10am-2pm), you are invited to have a Child Identification Card made for your child for your safekeeping.  Parents can bring their children to be photographed and fingerprinted and take away Child Identification Cards for their family records. This program is sponsored by New York Life Insurance Company: The Company You Keep®.  No reservation is necessary.

Rowayton Library presents… Monday, February 25 @ 12 Noon – Art21 Stories: Film, Discussion & Craft with RAC artists

Over the past decade, Art21 has established itself as the preeminent chronicler of contemporary art and artists through its Peabody Award-winning biennial television series, "Art in the Twenty-First Century." Come and become familiar with contemporary art and artists and the creative process.  Join us at the Rowayton Library for a "brown bag" lunch, refreshments, a movie, craft and discussion - this session led by RAC artists Hu Lindsay and Kathy Draper... for adults interested in Art.  Co-Sponsored by the Rowayton Arts Center.  This month’s film:  Art21 - Stories:  How do artists tell stories in their work? How does contemporary art reflect and reveal narrative traditions? How does the art of today record and describe the world around us? The "Art in the Twenty-First Century" documentary “Stories” explores these questions through the work of Charles Atlas, Kara Walker, Kiki Smith, Do-Ho Suh, and Trenton Doyle Hancock.

Wednesday, February 20 @ 7pm – Great Decisions - NATO in the 21st Century



Wednesday, February 20  Great Decisions @ the Rowayton Library topic:  How has NATO’s agenda evolved since its inception during the cold war? With its military commitment in Afghanistan winding down and a recent successful campaign in Libya, what are the Alliance’s present-day security challenges?

The Rowayton Library’s Great Decisions Discussion Group meets on alternating Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. Developed by the Foreign Policy Association, the Great Decisions Discussion Program is the oldest and largest grass-roots world affairs education program of its kind in the country. The Great Decisions Discussion Program is FPA's public education initiative to create more informed and engaged citizens by bringing people together to discuss U.S. foreign policy and global affairs issues. The session topics include:  NATO, Myanmar and Southeast Asia, Intervention, Iran, China in Africa, and Threat Assessment. Materials are provided to participants and are available at the Rowayton Library. This program is free and open to the public. The sessions are led by Erik Rambusch, Adjunct Professor at Norwalk Community College.  Discussion dates are 2/20, 3/6, 3/20, 4/3, 4/17, and 5/1. MovieTime - Peter Pan



Friday, February 15 @ 3:30pm – MovieTime – Peter Pan
          The Rowayton Parents Exchange is partnering with the Rowayton Library with MovieTime for Kids with "Peter Pan" (rated G).  The runtime is 77 minutes.
Fantastic adventures await Wendy and her brothers when Peter Pan, the hero of their stories, whisks them away to the magical world of Never Land. After following Peter and his feisty sidekick Tinker Bell past "the second star to the right and straight on till morning," they explore the island and Peter's secret hideout with the rambunctious Lost Boys and leap into high-flying battles with swashbuckling pirates and the infamous Captain Hook!
Popcorn will be served.  This program is free and open to the public.

Fairy Yarn Mothers - Knitting for Kids ages 8 and Up

The Rowayton Library continues with its KnittingTime once a month with NancyJo Rambusch for kids ages 8 & UP.  This program is designed to help kid knitters of all skill levels work on their projects.  As space is limited, please make a reservation.  Bring your own needles and projects.  First time students to our KnittingTime program will be provided with a pair of knitting needles and yarn to start learning or working on a project.  This program is free and open to the public.  For more information, please call the Library at (203) 838-5038.

Guess How Many Kisses

Submit your best guess.  The one who guesses the closest (but not over) number of chocolate kisses in the jar wins the kisses and 3 books about chocolate.  Winner will be selected on Valentine’s Day at noon at the Rowayton Library.  The jar filled with chocolate kisses is at the Circulation Desk at the Rowayton Library.  This program is free and open to the public.
