Annual Rowayton Library Haiku Contest

All month long in April to celebrate National Poetry Month

Calling poets of all ages! Everyone is encouraged to participate by submitting one to three haiku poems to the library. A haiku is an original poem of 17 syllables in three lines written in the following format:

  • Line 1 has five syllables, Line 2 has seven syllables, Line 3 has five syllables

The poems should have a theme related to nature or a season. Poems including inappropriate content will be disqualified.

Please send haiku submissions to haiku@rowayton.org or turn in legibly written poems to the library. Each poem should have the author’s name, address and corresponding email address.

The last day to send in submissions is Wednesday, April 30. Winners for various age groups will be announced on Wednesday, May 7 and displayed at the library.

Fairy Yarn Mothers – Knitting for Kids, Thursday, April 10 – 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Boys and girls who want to learn how to knit are welcome.

No need to bring equipment—all materials will be provided.

For ages 8 and up.


Stop Stress This Minute, Thursday, April 10 – 7 p.m.

This program will show you how to stop reacting to stress in predictable ways that only makes your stress worse. By teaching you a unique self-monitoring system plus state of the art stress-stoppers like cognitive restructuring, mindfulness, time management and creative problem-solving, you will come away from this program feeling relaxed, energized and ready to take on any stressful situation you encounter.

Wine and cheese reception and book signing to follow.

Rowayton resident James Porter, President of StressStop.com, author of books, workbooks, CDs and videos on managing stress, has been producing stress management training materials for over 25 years. He also lectures on stress management in major corporations and for government agencies including: Blue Cross and Blue Shield, GlaxoSmithKline, Time Inc., Homeland Security, the FBI and U.S. Navy.

Spring Cookie Decorating for Kids, Friday, April 11 – 3:45 to 4:30 p.m.

Spring has sprung, so come celebrate by decorating a batch of sugar cookies to take home.

For children in grades K and up.

Great Decisions Discussion Group, Wednesday, April 16 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Ongoing group that meets on alternating Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
